permitting process with plans, we offer permitting services if needed for you window or door replacement project

Phase 1: Project Assessment, Permitting, and Opening Preparation (For New Openings)

  • Replacements: We assess the existing door and frame, noting any issues. We also confirm permit requirements, which are generally needed for exterior door replacements, especially if the size of the opening is changing.

  • New Openings: Creating a new exterior doorway is a more involved process requiring careful planning and structural considerations. This phase includes:

    • Structural Evaluation: We assess the wall's structure to determine if it's load-bearing. If so, a header will need to be installed.

    • Permitting: Permits are always required for creating new exterior openings. We handle the application process.

    • Framing the Opening: We carefully cut the opening and frame it, ensuring it's level, plumb, and square. A properly sized header is installed if necessary.

    • Weatherproofing: We install flashing around the rough opening.

  • Removing the Frame: We carefully remove the door frame.

  • Cleaning the Opening: We clean the rough opening.

  • Setting the Frame: We carefully set the new door frame, ensuring it is level, plumb, and square.

  • Shimming and Securing the Frame: We use shims to fine-tune the frame's position and secure it.
