Phase 1: System Design & Planning

This crucial initial phase involves designing an irrigation system tailored to your specific landscape needs. As part of our Sanctuary Sequence, we have already conducted a thorough site assessment, including measurements, soil analysis, and an evaluation of plant water requirements (informed by our Sanctuary Studio plant selection process).

  • Zone Planning: We divide the landscape into different zones based on plant type, sun exposure, and soil conditions. This allows us to customize watering schedules for each zone.

  • Irrigation Method Selection: We determine the most appropriate irrigation methods for each zone, considering factors such as plant type, water conservation goals, and budget. Common methods include:

    • Drip Irrigation: Ideal for individual plants, shrubs, and trees, delivering water directly to the root zone, minimizing water waste.

    • Spray Irrigation: Suitable for lawns and larger groundcover areas, providing even water distribution. We select appropriate spray heads (rotors, sprays, bubblers) based on the area's shape and size.

  • Water Source and Backflow Prevention: We identify the water source and install a backflow preventer to protect the potable water supply from contamination. This is a crucial safety measure required by local codes in Orange County.

  • Main Line and Lateral Line Layout: We design the layout of the main water line and lateral lines (the pipes that deliver water to the sprinklers or drip emitters).

  • Controller Selection: We select an appropriate irrigation controller that allows for automated watering schedules and adjustments based on weather conditions. Smart controllers with weather sensors are often recommended for maximizing water efficiency in Southern California.

  • Permitting: We determine if permits are required for the irrigation installation in your specific Orange County location and handle the application process if necessary.

Phase 2: Professional Irrigation Pipe Installation

This phase focuses on professional irrigation pipe installation in your Orange County landscape. We carefully install the main and lateral lines, ensuring proper trenching, connections, and fittings. This precise installation includes:

  • Trenching: Carefully digging trenches for the main and lateral lines to the proper depth for protection.

  • Pipe Installation: Laying the main and lateral lines with proper connections and using appropriate fittings and durable materials.

  • Valve Installation: Installing valves in valve boxes for easy access and maintenance of your Orange County irrigation system.

Phase 3: Sprinkler/Emitter and Controller Installation for Landscapes

This phase focuses on the precise installation of sprinklers, drip emitters, and the setup of the irrigation controller for optimal performance in Orange County. This phase includes:

  • Sprinkler/Emitter Installation: Installing sprinklers/emitters at designated locations with proper spacing and coverage for efficient watering.

  • Connecting to the Controller: Connecting the valves to the irrigation controller using low-voltage wiring for automated control.

  • Controller Programming: Programming the controller according to the designed watering schedule, considering Orange County weather patterns and plant needs.

Phase 4: Irrigation System Testing, Adjustments, Backfilling, and Cleanup

This final phase ensures your newly installed Orange County irrigation system is functioning correctly, efficiently, and leaves your property looking its best. This comprehensive final check includes:

  • System Testing: Testing the entire system for leaks, proper water pressure, and even coverage to ensure optimal performance.

  • Adjustments: Making necessary adjustments to optimize water distribution and minimize water waste in your Orange County landscape.

  • Backfilling Trenches: Carefully backfilling all trenches and compacting the soil to restore your landscape.

  • Cleanup: Thoroughly cleaning the work area, removing any debris or construction materials, leaving your property neat and tidy.
