What Are Porcelain Pavers?
- Porcelain pavers are a modern and stylish choice for hardscaping in Orange County, offering exceptional durability and design versatility for patios, walkways, and pool decks. These innovative pavers are made from high-quality porcelain, fired at extremely high temperatures to create a dense and non-porous material that's resistant to stains, scratches, and fading. Unlike natural stone, porcelain pavers are available in a wide range of colors, textures, and patterns, allowing you to create a truly unique outdoor space. Imagine a sleek, contemporary patio in Newport Beach featuring large-format porcelain pavers with a wood-grain finish, or a charming walkway in San Clemente adorned with pavers that mimic the look of cobblestone. Sanctuary Design & Build can expertly install porcelain pavers, transforming your Orange County landscape with a durable and beautiful surface that will stand the test of time.

Course: HOW ARE PORCELAIN PAVERS INSTALLED?
Process - Porcelain Pavers
Discover our step by step guide on how we bring your Paver projects to life. Unless otherwise stated in your contract, all installations pertaining to Porcelain Pavers are performed in the exact outlined method!
Phase 1: Demolition & Prep
The initial stage to any properly done paver project is a strong foundation, demolition and preparation to mark the layout of the project and to compact the bedrock before the next phases are paramount to a long lasting and properly done project. Additionally install a geotextile / Weed barrier fabric to separate the base and bedrock.
Phase 2: Base Installation
After proper foundation forming is complete, we will then install LEVEL 2 Gravel or road base consisting of very small to medium sized gravel pieces to provide ample foundational support per standards of workmanship. This base will be approx. 2"-4" for residential foot traffic and 6"+ for any heavy traffic use.
Phase 3: Base Preparation
To fully complete the base appropriately it is paramount to properly prepare the base to ensure that the foundation does not fail throughout the paver lifespan. This is done by water treating the base to simulate rainfall as well as compacting the base 1-2 times as needed thoroughly.
Phase 4: Bedding Sand
Once the base is completed, we begin the delivery and installation of the bedding sand. This sand is approx. 1" in total depth and is installed directly on top of the gravel base to act as a cushioned leveled surface or "bed" for the porcelain pavers to be installed on. It is important to note that the sand is compacted PRIOR to the porcelain paver installation so that the strike force of setting the paver is enough to set it.
Phase 5: Paver Installation
Here comes the fun part! We begin by carefully laying the porcelain pavers in your chosen pattern. Ensuring that each paver is placed snugly against its neighbors for a clean look with enough space for our last stage. Once all pavers are laid, we use a striker to secure them in place, which will help create a stable and durable surface. Important to note the striking will need to be done carefully to not damage the pavers.
Phase 6: Joint Sand & Finalize
After Pavers have been laid. We will then install polymeric sand and comb/brush the sand in between the porcelain paver joints to properly fill all joints with ample sand. Lastly water the porcelain pavers to both additionally clean and importantly to activate the polymeric filled joints for a long lasting set. Seal and finalize upon completion. IMPORTANT to note that the slope MUST BE at minimum 2% from all structures.
