What Are Concrete Pavers?
- Concrete pavers are a popular choice for hardscaping in Orange County, offering a durable and versatile solution for patios, walkways, driveways, and pool decks. These individual paving stones are made from a mixture of cement, sand, and aggregates, and they come in a wide array of shapes, sizes, colors, and textures. Interlocking concrete pavers create a durable surface that can withstand heavy foot traffic and the Southern California climate. They're also known for their design flexibility, allowing for intricate patterns and custom designs. Whether you envision a classic brick paver patio in your garden in Anaheim Hills or a contemporary geometric design for your driveway in Laguna Beach, Sanctuary Design & Build can expertly install concrete pavers that enhance the beauty and functionality of your outdoor spaces.

Course: HOW ARE CONCRETE PAVERS INSTALLED?
Process - Concrete Pavers
Discover our step by step guide on how we bring your Paver projects to life. Unless otherwise stated in your contract, all installations pertaining to Concrete Pavers are performed in the exact outlined method!
Phase 1: Demolition & Prep
The initial stage to any properly done paver project is a strong foundation, demolition and preparation to mark the layout of the project and to compact the bedrock before the next phases are paramount to a long lasting and properly done project. Additionally install a geotextile fabric to separate the base and bedrock.
Phase 2: Base Installation
After proper foundation forming is complete, we will then install LEVEL 2 Gravel consisting of very small to medium sized gravel pieces to provide ample foundational support per standards of workmanship. This base will be approx. 4" for residential foot traffic and 6"+ for any heavy traffic use.
Phase 3: Base Preparation
To fully complete the base appropriately it is paramount to properly prepare the base to ensure that the foundation does not fail throughout the paver lifespan. This is done by water treating the base to simulate rainfall as well as compacting the base 1-2 times as needed thoroughly.
Phase 4: Bedding Sand
Once the base is completed, we begin the delivery and installation of the bedding sand. This sand is approx. 1" in total depth and is installed directly on top of the gravel base to act as a cushioned leveled surface or "bed" for the pavers to be installed on and later compacted into.
Phase 5: Paver Installation
Here comes the fun part! We begin by carefully laying the pavers in your chosen pattern. Ensuring that each paver is placed snugly against its neighbors for a clean look with enough space for our last stage. Once all pavers are laid, use a compactor to secure them in place, which will help create a stable and durable surface.
Phase 6: Joint Sand & Finalize
After Pavers have been laid, compacted and completed. We will then install joint sand (or polymeric as needed) and comb/brush the sand in between the paver joints to properly fill all joints with ample sand. This is to ensure the concrete pavers are interlocked together. Finally a last round of compacting and clean up and you're all set!
